The Lacrosse Missile System was developed as a surface to surface mobile attack weapon. It was extremely accurate because it was controlled by a forward guidance station, similar to a field artillery observation post. The Lacrosse was developed out of the Army’s Pacific Campaign experience in World War II. While originally designed for close-in support, it was expanded to general support. The Lacrosse was also capable of delivering numerous types of warheads. The missile was mounted on a standard Army truck, and was totally self contained and highly mobile. Because of its mobility, the Lacrosse presented a difficult target for the enemy to find.
