The U.S.S. Lexington is an Essex-Class aircraft carrier. Built during World War II for the U.S. Navy. Its nickname was the Blue Ghost. The ship was being built as the U.S.S. Cabot in 1941 by Fore River shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. In May of 1942 the Lexington (CV-2) was sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea. In June of 1942 they changed the name of the carrier under construction to the Lexington. During World War II the Lexington first appeared at Pearl Harbor on August of 1943. It participated in attacks on Tarawa, Wake Island, Battle of the Philippines and Battle of Leyte Gulf.
